the face, body and ear could def use a little work. The reason they stick out is because the hair is flawless. You need more contrast, especially on the nose and more vibrant colors and it needs to be smoother. The ear just doesn't have any detail at all. The blanket looks a little 2d also

agreed- if you put as much effort into the skin as the hair this would be an absolutely AMAZING picture.

maibe im wrong, but it looks like you paint over the picture and let the hair untouched, an then paint the face and the clothes.
But if the hair is painted, then paint the rest of the face with the same detail, as Morphyne sais, i will be very outstanding

The hair looks painted to me. Some people do find hair easier to paint than skin, it really depends on your style. But I do agree with the need more details thing.

Thanx everybody for the crits.

First off, it is completely painted, original picture side by side.

I do love painting hair, so I spent more time there. Like I said, it was the first time I used the Liquid-Just add water tool, so I was experimenting.

I was finding it hard to get fine details, as I was completely washing it out. The ears, the face, etc, and finally got frustrated. I did notice lots of paintings that used the liquid tool looked too smooth with not enough roughness to it.

I will search for some nice techniques on this and try some ideas out myself.

P.S.
The blanket/shirt thing is actually a chinese fan she was holding, but I was concentrating on the blending aspect and so used a fill pattern just to cover it, hence the 2D look.
